Awesome Uncle Jimmy!

I was just looking through a bunch of old files and deleting stuff when I came across this shot of Uncle Jimmy. I combined 2 pictures real quick and it turned out kinda cool. I love how his hot rod shirt kinda goes with the background!

shoot shoot shoot!

Today I was happy to hear from The Territory Ahead about a submission I sent in a while back. They want to run the photo above in their winter catalog and pay me $700. Ok, fine by me!
For any of you photographers out there wanting to get into stock, never stop shooting! It will pay off later on. I've realized this more and more lately. I shot this image in 2003 when I was up visiting my family in Oregon. Basically I was getting really bored sitting around the house, so I went out exploring and shooting photos all day long for a few days. Sometimes I'd feel like I got nothing good at all and I just took a bunch of lame photos, but I would always have fun doing it. I don't think much of this photo at all, but I've learned that everything doesn't need to be picture perfect. Well, sometimes it does, but not for stock.

Here is another photo of mine that UpperCut licensed recently. Same exact situation... I was getting bored in Oregon so I went out shooting. Now it's selling! Hope you all can learn from this... shoot shoot shoot!

4,191 photos in 4 minutes 40 seconds!

Recently at Lake Powell I wanted to try something new, so I got the idea to put my cool little cable release gizmo to work. The camera (my 30d with a 15mm fisheye) was up on the top deck of our houseboat and I taped down the tripod so it didn't move or get knocked into the water! So I started the shooting early in the morning and ended it 8 hours later when we pulled into the dock. Houseboats don't travel very fast at all, maybe 5-10 mph max. So I set it to take a pic once every 7 seconds on average, sometimes more sometimes less. I just finished putting all the images together in a quicktime show and it turned out kinda cool... so check it out! It's a big file so hopefully you have high speed internet...

Congrats James and Lauren Munk!

Bethany and I had the awesome opportunity to photograph my friend James' wedding yesterday! James and his wife Lauren were so photogenic and fun to shoot! Not only did we have a beautiful couple to shoot, but the location was incredible as well.

James and Lauren, thanks so much for inviting us to be a part of your day! God bless you in your new life together!

I'm back!

Just returned from an incredible houseboating trip on Lake Powell with my family and our wonderful friends the Berghs. It was such an amazing time as always. I tallied it up and I took over 6,000 photos (that is including an experiment I tried out for the first time, which was 4,133 photos... I'll show you it when it's done).
So ya, I have been shooting like crazy and I'm trying to figure out an easy way to share the good photos... posting them using blogger has been incredibly slow and tedious. Any suggestions?
I'm sure I'll figure out something, so hang tight and I'll be posting a lot of new stuff soon.
Tomorrow Bethany and I are shooting my friend James' wedding which I know is going to be amazing. I can't wait! It's late so I need to get some sleep!

For now here is one pic of our houseboat on Lake Powell. Paradise...

gone fishin'

From today, September 2nd, until September 25th I will be out of town. I will not have access to my email or internet until September 14th, so hang tight and I'll reply when I can. Also my phone will not have service. Disconnected from the world... :)

Where am I going? Good question- read the post below this one...

Back home from Seattle but not for long!

I've been in Seattle for the past week assisting on a really fun shoot with photographer Jeffrey Brown. I'm back home now, but only for a few more hours! As always with me, I'm finishing up packing my bags and photo equipment just a few hours before Bethany and I leave to make this drive from San Diego to Lake Powell!
My family and our good friends always try to take a houseboat trip every year on Lake Powell. It's seriously my favorite place in the whole US! So we'll be on our houseboat "The Rhino" for 9 days. I can't wait!

Then straight from Lake Powell were driving to Las Vegas and flying from Vegas to Portland Oregon to shoot my buddy James' wedding on September 16th. Not only is he getting married in beautiful Hood River Oregon (my hometown!) but they are also having an outdoor ceremony at the base of Mt. Hood, it's going to be unbelievable!

I never like to make a post without pics, so here are a few I snapped off from Seattle-

And this is our friends houseboat on Lake Powell-

And this is Mt. Hood from beautiful Hood River, Oregon. Can't wait to shoot a wedding with this in the background!
