I don't get it

Who actually buys stuff from places like Best Buy and Circuit City??? The only reason to ever buy anything from those places is if you need something immediately and you have a store near you. I've noticed that Best Buy's prices are CONSISTENTLY 50% higher than any other online or retail competitor, FOR THE EXACT SAME THING. So why buy from there unless you have money to burn and could care less!?

Today I needed to order two 1 terabyte hard drives (seems to be a monthly occurrence these days) so I spent a few minutes shopping around online and found that as usual, frys.com had the best price and even free shipping on Seagate Freeagent Pro 1TB drives. Prices at 160 bucks, 320 for two. Not bad. Cruise on over to BestBuy.com and they are a whopping $350 EACH!! WOW... what a price difference! I paid 30 bucks less for twice the amount, and free shipping. It just amazes me that anyone buys anything at Best Buy...

Or take a Canon EOS 5D camera. Great price at Amazon.com- $2,000
Or, buy it from Best Buy for a whopping $1,300 more at $3,300 (same price the camera was introduced at in 2005!!)

I just don't get it. Do you?

That's one of the great advantages of the internet. Easy price comparison from the comfort of one's home is an incredibly anti-inflationary tool. Hey, maybe even deflationary.

Love ur pics. Keep em coming.

The worst, in my opinion, is A/V cables. Their markups are MONSTER (heh). I buy all my cables now through monoprice.com. $60 cables for $10. No question a lot retail stores just aren't competitively priced anymore.

I do have to say, that I got my camera at Circuit City after weighing a kajillion options... in the end, with a sale & the AAA discount I had it was cheaper there than anywhere else I could get it at the time (mind you, I had to fight for the quote I was given, but patience with the customer service gal, and some hell digging persistance got exactly what I'd calculated), and it saved me as I ended up with a burnt pixel from the get-go... called Circuit City, they had the camera now on back-order... and I got to shoot that camera HC until they got another one in stock for me (2 months laters?)

I saw a 500gb at Target for like $100. The price of memory is falling so fast. Pretty soon they're gonna come free with your next order at Starbucks.
